Daddy, I know I am tiny and sometimes hard to understand, but I want to thank you today for doing all the things no one ever asked you to do— especially the things you do that express just how much you love my momma.
No one asked you to rub her feet when I was in her tummy, but you did.
No one asked you to tell her how beautiful she was even after gaining all that weight with me, but you did.
No one asked you to hold her hand while she screamed in pain, but you did.
No one asked you to kiss her forehead and tell her how proud of her you were when I arrived, but you did.
No one asked you to get up in the middle of the night to tend to me, but you did.
No one asked you to come home early so she could rest and we could play, but you did.
No one asked you to patiently nod your head when she was postpartum and emotional, but you did.
No one asked you to support her through the discomfort and confusion of breastfeeding me, but you did.
No one asked you to tell her how amazing she was with spit up on her shirt and no makeup on, but you did.
No one asked you to encourage her to get a new outfit for herself, but you did.
No one asked you to do the dishes without complaining, but you did.
No one asked you to nudge her to take a night out with girlfriends, but you did.
No one asked you to enjoy microwaved meals for a while, but you did.
No one asked you to step into these “Father shoes,” but you have.
No one ever asked you to be there for us, but you are.
Most of all daddy, thank you for doing this “parenting thing” along side my momma. I know it isn’t easy when I cry or take away time from you two, and I am sure you both sometimes miss how it was before I came along. But as your baby girl, I have learned more about what love really is by watching you two. For that, and for doing all the things no one ever asked you to do- thank you.
Happy Father’s Day!
